Hank Bowen, chair of the Recreation Committee, asked the Select Board to approve a feasibility study for a community center, describing the study as a space-needs assessment, site review, schematic design and cost estimate. "In order to achieve this goal, we are requesting approval for a feasibility study not to exceed $35,000," Bowen said.
Board members emphasized they preferred to identify available grant or federal funds (ARPA/CDBG) before using town free cash; the motion authorized administration to identify funding sources and to proceed with the feasibility study if outside funds are not available. Discussion noted Wixon (35 acres) as a preferred central location but that the study should be open to evaluating multiple town-owned sites.
The board voted to direct administration to pursue funding-source options and to proceed with the study (or place an article if town funding is required), and asked that the study include program options of different scales to allow voters and the board to compare modest and larger alternatives.
