Michael Procuk sworn in for another term; council issues 2026 committee assignments

Bill Mason opened the Jan. 6 council meeting by recognizing Mayor Michael Procuk’s long public service and administering the oaths of office for Mayor Procuk, Clerk-Treasurer Aaron Frank and newly elected Council Members Jennifer Presot and Raymond Berzins. Mason described Procuk as “a true leader and one of the finest elected officials in the state.”

Mayor Procuk read the 2026 committee assignments, naming chairs and members across Ad Hoc Environment, Building, Finance, Parks, Safety, Streets/Beautification & Utilities, Wage & Salary and related committees. He also announced the Charter Review Commission appointments and outlined next steps, saying the commission will manage its own meetings after Council provides initial guidance.

In a brief economic development update, Procuk said the Village is pursuing two major prospective clients. He said the Visiting Nurses Association was notified by its landlord that it must seek alternate space and that a Zoom meeting will be held with VNA representatives to discuss incentives and potential relocation within the Village. Procuk said Brooklyn Heights is competing with Independence and Valley View for a prospective company and that incentive materials and the application are being prepared.

The mayor also noted the passing of former Bedford Mayor Dan Pocek and provided details for memorial services. The meeting record shows routine approvals and committee scheduling will continue to be handled at upcoming meetings.

The council adjourned at the close of the agenda; the Charter Review Commission will be contacted to schedule its first meeting.
