Select Board votes to temporarily move Precinct 1 polling place from Carlton Hall to Fire Station 2

Terry Bunce presented a memorandum recommending the temporary relocation of Precinct 1 polling from Carlton Hall to Fire Station 2 (350 Paddocks Path) for the May 13, 2025 annual town election, citing mold, mildew and poor basement conditions in Carlton Hall that make it unsuitable for election workers who must spend long hours in the polling location. "My recommendation is to temporarily move the precinct," Bunce said, noting Fire Station 2 offers ADA-compliant community rooms and an established voting outline with the Secretary of State’s office.
Members of the public representing Dennis Village urged the board to make the move clearly temporary and to plan for returning the precinct to Carlton Hall after remediation. The board discussed notification requirements under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 54, Section 24 and confirmed that if the board votes to relocate, staff will notify the affected households per statute.
A motion to temporarily relocate Precinct 1 until further notice passed on a roll-call vote with all members saying "Aye." The board directed administration to prepare notice to voters and to bring updated cleanup and re-opening plans for Carlton Hall back to the board for future consideration.
