Upper Hanover supervisors authorize advertisement for electronic-signage ordinance, award ADA contract and approve multiple measures

At a Jan. 13, 2020 workshop, the Upper Hanover Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to advertise Ordinance No. 2020-01 (electronic signage), authorize advertisement of a burning ordinance update, approve a $100 memorial donation, appoint a representative to the Agricultural Security Area Advisory Committee and award a $118,190 CDBG-funded ADA contract.
At a Jan. 13, 2020 workshop meeting, the Upper Hanover Township Board of Supervisors authorized advertising Ordinance No. 2020-01, a proposed zoning amendment to regulate electronic signage, and approved several other municipal measures including a contract award for building accessibility improvements.
The board — Chairman Eugene Fried and supervisors Dorothy Diehl, Ben Fiorito, Steven Rothenberger and Timothy Woodward — voted unanimously on each motion. The Planning Commission had recommended adoption of the electronic-signage ordinance and the supervisors moved to authorize its advertisement so the ordinance could proceed through formal public-notice and hearing steps.
Township Fire Marshal Mike Wetzel and Township Solicitor Joseph Bresnan reviewed a proposed update to the township’s burning ordinance. Supervisor Ben Fiorito moved to advertise the burning-ordinance update for public notice; Supervisor Timothy Woodward seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board approved a $100 donation to the Montgomery County Police Officers Memorial Committee (motion by Supervisor Fiorito, second by Supervisor Rothenberger) and appointed Supervisor Timothy Woodward as the township representative to the Agricultural Security Area Advisory Committee (motion by Supervisor Rothenberger, second by Chairman Fried). Both measures were carried unanimously.
On a Community Development Block Grant-funded project, the board awarded Municipal Building ADA improvements to AK Petersheim Builders as the low bidder at $118,190.00. Supervisor Steven Rothenberger moved to award the contract; Supervisor Ben Fiorito seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The supervisors also authorized staff to solicit proposals for bench shelters at Camelot Park, including attaching chain-link fencing to the rear of all four shelters (motion by Dorothy Diehl; second by Timothy Woodward). The board reviewed a prior request for a crosswalk on Route 29 near the Palm Tavern and asked Township Manager Stanley Seitzinger, Jr. to contact Mr. Ross to determine whether he might cover the installation and associated engineering and inspection fees.
Chairman Fried provided an update on required maintenance for exhaust fans at the maintenance building, and Supervisor Fiorito reported on the status of matters related to the Allentown Refrigerated Truck Terminal. The board reviewed the regular meeting agenda for Jan. 14, 2020 and adjourned the workshop at 8:40 p.m.
