At its Feb. 18, 2026 meeting, the Vinalhaven Budget Committee approved proposed library funding and a planning update budget that includes an estimated $30,000 comprehensive plan update.
Margret Qualey, Budget Committee member, moved approval of the library funding item, and Banner Moffat, Budget Committee member, seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Committee members noted the library receives free internet service and holds a fair amount of its own funding.
On planning, committee members discussed a comprehensive plan update expected to take a couple of years and to cost roughly $30,000; the committee noted a possible $15,000 grant that could offset the expense for Land Use Ordinance updates. Banner Moffat moved to approve the planning item as presented; Eric Davis seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Committee members also agreed to defer any consideration of switching town employee retirement benefits to a defined-benefit plan until the Select Board indicates interest in pursuing that change. The committee adjourned at 5:20 p.m. and will hold a final meeting after school and county budget figures are available.
