The Vinalhaven Board of Selectmen on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, unanimously approved several town budget lines, including the Fire Department ($205,452), Ambulance service ($280,836), Public Safety ($23,392) and Debt Service ($375,142). All four motions passed by 4-0 votes.
The budget approvals allocate funding for emergency services and scheduled debt obligations for the coming year. Town Manager Marjorie Stratton presented the recommended figures; the board approved each line after brief discussion and motions from selectmen.
Selectman Pam Alley moved to approve the Fire Department budget of $205,452 as recommended by Town Manager Marjorie Stratton, the budget committee and the department head; Selectman Leslie Dyer seconded the motion. The board voted 4-0-0 and the motion carried.
Selectman Eric Gasperini moved to approve the Ambulance budget of $280,836, noting discussion of patient-transport revenue and that the town manager typically uses a conservative estimate for collections; Selectman Leslie Dyer seconded. The motion passed 4-0-0.
Selectman Pam Alley moved to approve the Public Safety budget of $23,392, with discussion noting an Improvements line to replace fluorescent lighting with LED fixtures; Selectman Eric Gasperini seconded. The motion carried 4-0-0.
Selectman Pam Alley moved to approve the Debt Service budget of $375,142 as recommended by the town manager and budget committee; Selectman Tom Anthony seconded. The board approved the motion 4-0-0.
On law enforcement staffing costs, Town Manager Marjorie Stratton reviewed overtime data for July–December that showed about 45 hours of overtime per deputy. The board reached consensus to adjust the estimated overtime to 100 hours per deputy per year and to review the figures further; no formal motion or vote on the overtime estimate is recorded in the minutes.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Selectman Pam Alley, seconded by Selectman Eric Gasperini; the board adjourned at 5:01 p.m.
