Vinalhaven budget committee projects a 0.27% municipal increase; North Haven Road paving covered by TIF

On Feb. 18, 2026, the Vinalhaven Budget Committee reviewed capital projects and noted the municipal budget will increase about 0.27% excluding school and county figures. Committee members said North Haven Road north-end paving is mostly funded through a tax increment financing (TIF) account; additional paving this year would require an explicit request to the Selectmen for added funding.
The committee also recorded that two old municipal debts were paid off this year and that the townwide mapping project is on track for completion in 2027. Andrea Hogan, Budget Committee member, moved to approve the capital projects as presented; Eric Davis seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Members flagged that some capital work is funded from dedicated accounts (TIF) and would be subject to account rules and availability. The committee will incorporate school and county budget figures into its next meeting before finalizing recommendations for the town warrant.
