Danville committee backs most warrant articles, declines bulk pick-up proposal; revenue budget approved

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Danville Budget Committee recommended multiple warrant articles including $50,000 for Town Hall chimneys and several capital reserve additions, did not recommend a $45,000 spring/fall bulk pick-up (2-3), and approved revenues of $1,703,831 unanimously.
The Danville Budget Committee reviewed and recorded recommendations on a slate of warrant articles that will appear on the town warrant. Among the proposals the committee recommended were Article 2026-13 — $50,000 to repair or replace both chimneys on Town Hall (5-0) — and several capital-reserve additions for highway, fire department equipment, library infrastructure and other smaller funds (most 5-0).
The committee did not recommend Article 2026-14, a $45,000 proposal to fund an additional fall bulk waste pick-up (noting it would be in addition to the spring pick-up). The committee vote on that article was 2-3 (Rob Collins, Sue Overstreet and Mary Reedy did not recommend it). Several other small trust and reserve additions — including a $10,000 appropriation for the Colby Memorial Library infrastructure non-capital reserve (Article 2026-20) — were recommended unanimously or nearly unanimously.
The Budget Committee also approved the town revenue budget at $1,703,831 by unanimous vote. Chairperson Rob Collins explained the committee’s revenue estimates differed from the MS-434 figures used by the Board of Selectmen because the BOS updates MS-434 in September when the tax rate is set.
What comes next: the committee’s recommendations and the warrant language will be part of the Budget Public Hearing on Jan. 14 at Town Hall. Voters will decide the final appropriations.
