Madison County proclaims National Flag Week, highlights local America 250 events

Madison County Judge Executive Reagan Taylor read a proclamation declaring June 14–19, 2026 as National Flag Week in Madison County and urged residents to display the American flag in honor of Flag Day and the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
The proclamation cites the adoption of the flag by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777, and notes that Congress designated June 14 as Flag Day by joint resolution in 1949. "I, Reagan Taylor, Madison County Judge Executive, and the Madison County Fiscal Court, do hereby proclaim the week of June 14th through the 19th, 2026 as National Flag Week in Madison County," the proclamation states.
Susie Durr, regent of the Jamaima Boon chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, thanked Taylor and the Fiscal Court for the recognition and described the chapter’s efforts tied to both Flag Day and the America 250 commemoration. "Flag Day reminds us that our nation's flag is much more than a piece of cloth. It represents the sacrifices of those who came before us and the courage of those who defend our freedoms," Durr said.
Durr announced several local America 250 activities. She said the Jamaima Boon chapter, the Kentucky Historical Society, the Kentucky Division of Forestry, the Kentucky Dociety, and Madison County planted a tulip poplar tree — identified in the remarks as the official Kentucky state tree — at Whiteall Park and invited the public to a Liberty Tree dedication there on July 17 at 9 a.m. She said a Patriot marker dedication will follow at Boonesboro State Park and that Richmond parks and recreation will celebrate America 250 with events at Lake Reeba on July 4.
The proclamation also formally recognizes the Jamaima Boon chapter for its efforts "to honor and support National Flag Day and Week, as well as our country's independence," and encourages citizens to "reaffirm the ideals of our county by displaying our American flag at their homes and celebrate the most important milestones in our country's history." The Fiscal Court did not take a separate vote on the proclamation during the recorded remarks; the proclamation was publicly read and the chapter’s activities were announced.
