Harbor committee files permits, eyes dredging and pier pending grants

Committee members told the board they are exploring Department of Marine Resources and other grant opportunities that are typically announced in January and awarded in July; if an application is accepted by the Jan. 6 deadline, preliminary work could proceed, town officials said. The committee plans to use awarded funds toward dredging and construction of a new pier or pier repairs.
The Harbor Committee also noted that some grant applications require local matching funds or private fundraising; the Selectmen did not authorize specific town funding at the meeting. Committee members have been assessing permit costs and timelines while lining up potential grant sources and contractors.
Background: Brooksville has previously pursued working-waterfront grants to support marina infrastructure and float replacement. Town staff said they will return with a timeline and any requests for selectmen action if and when a grant award or matching requirement is confirmed.
