The Presque Isle City Council on Aug. 20 voted to rescind its Aug. 6 approval of a policy governing the airport bid process after staff determined the policy did not comply with Maine’s open meetings law.
Chair introduced the item, explaining staff review found the policy as adopted on Aug. 6 failed to meet legal requirements. A councilor acknowledged making a mistake in approving the policy without sufficient due diligence and said the lawful course was to resend rather than double down. The council moved to rescind the prior approval and referred the matter back to the Airport Advisory Committee for further review and recommendations.
Councilor Craig made the motion to resend and Councilor Hank seconded; the motion passed on the council floor. Staff noted a memo from the solicitor outlining the concern was included in the meeting packet.
The council did not adopt an alternative airport policy at the meeting; it directed staff and the advisory committee to return with recommendations that conform with open‑meetings requirements.
