Coffee County Commission approves rezoning on McMinnville Highway, road-maintenance pact, judicial reappointments and a one-year moratorium on data centers

The Coffee County Commission on June 9 approved several resolutions and budget actions, including a rezoning for a parcel on McMinnville Highway, an intergovernmental road-maintenance agreement with the city of Manchester, yearly judicial-commissioner reappointments and a one-year moratorium on data centers in the county.

Resolution No. 2026-10, to amend the zoning map for tax map 66, parcel 009.00 on McMinnville Highway, passed by recorded vote with 13 members voting yes and 5 absent. The motion was made by Commissioner Watkins and seconded by Commissioner Stubblefield.

The commission also approved Resolution No. 2026-11, authorizing an agreement between the city of Manchester and Coffee County for coordination of road maintenance. Commissioner Hershman moved the resolution; Commissioner Watkins seconded, and the measure passed with all members present voting in favor (13 yes, 5 absent).

The body approved yearly reappointments of judicial commissioners by a recorded vote (motion by Commissioner Miller, seconded by Commissioner Stubblefield; 13 yes, 5 absent). In addition, the commission approved multiple budget and school-fund amendments (Fund 141 school amendments #141-2026-23 through #141-2026-28; Fund 171 Capital Projects #171-2026-24; Fund 101 General Fund #101-2026-25; Fund 143 Food Service #143-2026-1; Fund 141 #141-2026-22) during the consent portion of the meeting; those items passed by recorded votes with the membership present.

Notably, the commission passed Resolution 2026-12, which imposes a one-year moratorium on data centers within Coffee County. Commissioner Watkins moved the moratorium and Commissioner Stubblefield seconded; the resolution carried by a recorded vote (13 yes, 5 absent).

The meeting concluded with the commission announcing its next regular session on June 23, 2026 and adjourning.
