Police and fire chiefs outline training, equipment needs; police to explore license-plate cameras

Police Chief Jason Harget told council that officers are finishing required CPT training by the first week of November and that the village will be reimbursed for training time; the department is budgeting for virtual training equipment and replacement radios and batteries. Harget said the department is considering a Flock camera system and described it as a license-plate capture system rather than a live-video or speed-measurement tool: "It is not live video, it just captures license plates for warrants, persons of interest, and for solving crime."
Fire Chief Jerry Brooks reported the department received a complimentary pump operation class from the State Fire Academy (12 attendees, four from a neighboring department), is working with insurance and a roofer to repair storm damage to a roof, has ordered four new gas meters to place one on each truck, and plans to replace at least four sets of bunker gear as items near expiration and to support hiring additional personnel. Brooks also noted there were 13 runs in a 24-hour period earlier in the month.
Council discussed possible placement and funding for cameras and referred emergency-phone security to the Public Safety Committee for additional review; no formal votes on equipment purchases were taken at the meeting.
