The Readfield Select Board on Tuesday received an update on the town’s multi‑phase technology plan and progress toward moving staff and volunteers to cloud‑based productivity tools.
Town Manager Eric and IT staffer Jiren described a phased migration: beginning with boards and committees to provide immediate access to shared files and meeting recordings, then extending to staff email and file systems. The town has already purchased hardware and Google Workspace licenses and plans to keep some Microsoft licenses for staff who require desktop Excel and other specialized tools. Board members praised staff for completing much of the front‑loaded work ahead of schedule.
Accessibility and meeting software were discussed: board members noted Google Meet’s limitations for some users and agreed that the town will continue paying for Zoom where necessary to meet accessibility needs. Eric said the rollout will be phased to reduce disruption, and that training and support will be provided to volunteers and staff.
The board’s IT plan also includes provisions for meeting recordings and document collaboration; staff will monitor outstanding hardware needs after migration and work with the vendor on any required desktop licenses. The Select Board expressed support for the migration and thanked staff for the rapid progress on the work plan.
What happens next: staff will begin phased onboarding of committees to Google Workspace and schedule training and support; the board has not yet voted on any additional recurring costs beyond current licenses.
