Open Space Committee granted four‑month extension; public hearing planned for fall

The Readfield Select Board unanimously approved a request May 19 to extend the Open Space Committee’s deadline by four months so the committee can complete a revised open‑space plan and hold a public hearing in late September or early October.

Bruce Burggoyne, speaking for the committee, said members have produced much of the written material and formed subgroups for mapping and writing, but they need more time to consolidate and refine the draft. "We would like to be done and we would like to deliver our product by October 31," Burggoyne said.

The board asked staff to open the reappointment process so committee members can be reappointed through the committee’s new finish date. The committee signaled it expects only modest additional costs to finalize the document and intends to rely mostly on volunteer time; the board noted staff will manage any small consulting or printing needs if they arise.

The committee plans monthly summer meetings, a public hearing on the draft in late September or early October, and a final presentation to the Select Board in October or at the first November meeting. Staff (Kristen) will manage reappointments and ensure the committee appears on the June meeting agenda for formal processing.

The extension passed by unanimous voice vote.
