Buckeye Lake parade plans move ahead; police and fire outline staffing, safety and equipment updates

Organizers of the Buckeye Lake Christmas parade told councilors on Nov. 24 that 13 participants had registered so far, the historic rocket cannot be used this year, Benny the Bass will participate and a lighted fire truck with Santa is planned. Organizers asked councilors to participate and suggested considering Sunday for next year because many nearby municipalities hold events on the same Saturday.
Police Chief Jason Harget said officers completed required CPT training, that the department will staff parade safety details, and that a black-and-white cruiser (decals removed) will be surplused via an ordinance and offered on GovDeals. He reported eight officers on staff and 16 hours of coverage per day.
Interim Fire Chief Jerry Brooks summarized departmental activity: 78 total runs this period (53 EMS runs, 26 transports, 14 fire runs), mutual aid activity, near-final hiring of two additional fire/EMT personnel, and that the department expects delivery of a LifePak unit next week; Mayor Goodman said a possible BWC grant of up to $40,000 could help pay for that equipment.
