Cookston warned that assuming maintenance of those streets without developer contributions would expose the village to similar requests for other private roads in poor condition. She told the council she possesses full archival records (CDs) of the Planning and Zoning proceedings spanning her tenure and offered to help review documents to clarify prior commitments and conditions tied to the replats.
Her remarks asked the council to protect the village from open-ended liability and to ensure any transfer of roads to village maintenance be accompanied by appropriate financial assurances from property owners or developers.
