Interim fire chief reports heavy EMS demand, equipment expirations; grants could cover gear

Interim Fire Chief Jerry Brooks reported to Buckeye Lake Village Council that the department had two fire runs prior to the meeting, 58 EMS runs with 24 transports, and multiple mutual-aid responses. Brooks said the department provided seven fire mutual-aid runs to Hebron and ten mutual-aid EMS runs.
Brooks described recent maintenance and equipment work: medic 922 received six new tires and other repairs are planned (oil change and brakes for medic 921). He reported a leak in a station urinal and a leak above the office area and said he will contact a plumber to address facility repairs.
On personnel equipment, Brooks said the department has four sets of turnout gear that will expire at the end of November and another four sets that will expire at the end of next year; some gloves are expired and the department has no spare inventory. He said a grant could cover replacement of expired gear if the application is successful.
