Open space committee granted short extension to finish plan

Bruce Burggoyne, speaking on behalf of the open space committee, told the select board the working group has made substantial progress but cannot complete a rewrite and final document by its June 30 deadline. Burggoyne said volunteers have done most of the work and asked the board for a four-month extension with a target finish date around Oct. 31 and a plan to hold a public hearing on the draft in late September or early October.
The board discussed administrative details and the reappointment process for committee members. A board member proposed asking Kristen (staff) to reappoint committee members through Oct. 31 with the expectation the committee would deliver a finished product by that date. The motion to have staff reappoint the ad-hoc open space committee through Oct. 31 was moved and seconded; the chair called the vote and the result was recorded as unanimous.
Why it matters: The open space update guides conservation and land-use priorities; a short extension maintains continuity of committee membership while allowing volunteers time to complete a more deliberative product rather than rushing an incomplete plan.
