Winthrop School Board approves minutes, several policies on second reading and reappoints district physician

At the start of the meeting the board moved and seconded to approve the minutes of the Winthrop School Board meeting of Jan. 21, 2026, and the motion carried. Later, under old business the board moved and seconded to approve a package of policies on second reading. The policies listed for second reading included ECB (Pest Management); JLCB (Immunization of Students); JICA (Weapons, Violence and School Safety); JFC (Dropout Prevention/Student Withdrawal from School); and a set of employee and transportation procedures including drug-and-alcohol testing for school bus drivers and related administrative procedures. There were no substantive changes reported from the first reading and the vote on the package was unanimous.
In new business the board considered a recurring personnel appointment and voted unanimously to approve the nomination of Jennifer McConnell as the district physician, a position the board fills annually so administrators and nurses have an on-call medical consult.
The meeting recorded no public commenters and concluded with no executive sessions; the board adjourned at approximately 6:25 p.m.
