Lubec school committee approves routine motions, opens interest-bearing account and authorizes summer custodial hires

The Maine School Administrative District No. 19 (Lubec) School Committee voted unanimously at its July 11 meeting to approve a series of routine motions affecting minutes, staffing and district finances.
Jane Lanctot moved to approve the minutes of the May 30, 2024 meeting; Joseph Swain seconded and the committee approved the motion unanimously. Superintendent MaryEllen Day reported two personnel appointments: Heather Henry was appointed ESEA Coordinator and Ed Leavitt was appointed as a custodian; both appointments were recorded in the superintendent’s report.
Wanda Reed moved and Deanna Newman seconded a motion to open an interest-bearing account at Bar Harbor Bank and Trust for the remaining balance of bond bank funds. The committee voted unanimously to open the account.
On facility and summer staffing, Richard Huntley Jr. moved and Joseph Swain seconded a motion to repair exterior lights at the gym and cafeteria, extend summer custodial work for Michelle Mitchell, Katie Lamson and Darryl Matthews by three weeks, and hire Mark McCurdy for $3,100 to paint and repair the front entrance of the gym. The motion passed unanimously.
The committee took no formal action on the playground statement read by the superintendent during the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.
