Northfield reports fire station progress, drainage project completion and community events

Council received updates from the village engineer and department heads: the new fire station truss is installed and concrete pour is scheduled, Sagamore Road drainage work is complete, pavement markings are nearly finished, and village recreation and community events were announced.
At the Oct. 11 meeting the Village of Northfield Council heard progress reports on ongoing public works and community events.
Engineer Daniel Collins told council the first truss for the new fire station went up and the concrete pour for the apparatus bay is scheduled for Monday. He said the Sagamore Road Drainage Improvements project was completed last Thursday and that the contractor is waiting for grass to establish; if grass does not grow the contractor will attempt reseeding next spring. Collins said pavement marking work is complete except for additional stop lines requested near the Fire Station and on North Plaza Drive. He added the village released an RFQ for design-build firms for a proposed new administration building; eight firms were solicited, five expressed interest and one response has been submitted.
Police Chief Brian Zajac and Fire Chief Jason Buss said their departments will participate in a community 'Touch a Truck' event at Lowe’s on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Chief Buss said the fire department will have an engine and ambulance at the event. Chief Zajac said he will be out of town next week for training.
Mayor Jenn Domzalski and the Recreation Board noted the final movie in the park is scheduled for Saturday but may be canceled in the event of rain; the board is also planning a Haunted House, Veterans Day celebration and holiday events. Halloween party and Trick-or-Treating are scheduled for Oct. 29, 5–7 p.m.
Chief Buss reminded residents that the village voting location on Election Day is Lee Eaton School, not the Fire Station. Councilmember Alan Hipps asked whether the Board of Elections had corrected a previous ward composition error; Domzalski and Engineer Collins said the Board promised to correct it next year and that it does not affect this year’s election because there are no ward-seat elections on the ballot.
