Sagadahoc County Commissioners approve two personnel transfers and authorize funds for jury bathroom

The Sagadahoc County Commissioners met in special session on Jan. 21, 2025, in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room in Bath and approved two personnel moves and funding actions for a third-floor jury bathroom.

Commissioner Charles Crosby called the meeting to order at 1:30 p.m. and the board moved briefly into executive session under Title 1, Maine Revised Statutes Annotated, section 405(6)(A), to discuss personnel matters. The motion to enter executive session was made by Commissioner Charles Crosby, seconded by Commissioner Stephen August and approved unanimously.

After returning to public session at 1:57 p.m., the commissioners approved two personnel actions effective Feb. 1, 2025. Commissioner Stephen August moved to transfer Tatiana Curtis into the part-time Probate Clerk position at 29.5 hours per week; Commissioner Todd McPhee seconded the motion, which passed unanimously. The board then approved the transfer of Hannah Dickinson to the Deputy Probate Register position on a motion by Commissioner August, seconded by Commissioner McPhee; that motion also passed unanimously.

Commissioner August asked that the forthcoming vacancy be advertised with a salary range rather than a fixed amount; Administrator Jones took note of the request for recruitment materials.

On facilities and budget matters, Commissioner August reported that representatives of the Maine Judicial Branch signed a letter of intent to reimburse the county for half the expense of constructing a new jury bathroom on the third floor and indicated willingness to work with the county on Americans with Disabilities Act compliance given the building’s historic status. The board authorized the use of $6,500 from the Building & Maintenance Capital account to construct the bathroom on a motion by Commissioner Crosby, seconded by Commissioner August; the motion passed unanimously. The commissioners also approved a transfer of up to $6,500 from the Commissioners’ FY25 Contingency Account to support the project, with the contingency funds to be reimbursed by the Maine Judicial Branch upon completion.

The special meeting adjourned at 2:03 p.m. after a motion by Commissioner Stephen August, seconded by Commissioner Todd McPhee, which passed 3-0.

Next steps noted in the meeting record: the jury bathroom work will proceed with the county covering initial costs and the Maine Judicial Branch expected to reimburse half of the expense at project completion; recruitment for the vacated position will reflect Administrator Jones’ follow-up on advertising the role with a salary range.
