Assessors raise Chamber membership, burn-permit records and culvert runoff concerns

Taylor also asked whether a burn permit had been issued for a property on Red Moose Lane after reports of a sizeable burn. The clerk said she typically receives copies of issued burn permits and recalled only a permit for Houston Road (for a Saturday evening into Sunday morning); she said she will double-check the records and report back.
Taylor asked if there were updates about the Magalloway Loop culvert. Rodney Varney, third assessor, said he has had trouble obtaining the correct email address for the mountain contact and that he intends to put the Plantation's position in writing because he sees the mountain's runoff as a continuing problem if the mountain does not address it.
The board did not take formal action on these items during the meeting; instead the clerk was assigned follow-up steps to verify permit records and the board recorded Varney's request to document the Plantation's position in writing. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, and adjourned at 5:39 p.m.
