Board moves security camera replacement forward and approves new correctional vehicle

Warden Glenn Irwin asked the Centre County Board of Commissioners on June 9 to approve a COSTARS contract with Watkins Security, LLC to replace indoor and outdoor security cameras at the Centre County Correctional Facility; the contract total is $131,885.20 and funding will come from the facility’s Dept. 333 budget. Irwin said the existing cameras were purchased in 2018 and that the upgrades would improve facility safety.
The Board voted unanimously to add the camera contract to next week’s Consent Agenda (motion by Commissioner Amber Concepcion; second by Commissioner Steven Dershem).
Separately, Dave Lomison requested and the Board approved a COSTARS vehicle purchase with Hondru GM for a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe priced at $58,745 plus rear partitions and window screens ($3,172.36) from Centre Communications, for a total of $61,917.36 charged to Dept. 333. The motion to approve the vehicle contract carried unanimously.
Both items were presented as department requests from the Correctional Facility and were recorded in the public minutes as approved for inclusion on the consent agenda (cameras) and as an approved contract (vehicle). No objections or recorded public comment on these items appear in the minutes.
