Council highlights police response to crisis call and hears resident concerns about e-bikes and traffic safety

Mayor Perry described a recent multi-agency police response to an individual-in-crisis call at a multi-unit building that required several hours of coordination and concluded with the individual being removed safely; no public or officer injuries were reported. Mayor Perry singled out Crafton officers Lapel and Withers and Chief Ford for their roles and thanked neighboring departments and county negotiation and tactical units for mutual aid.

During public comment, resident Jan Sweeney and other speakers raised safety concerns about an uptick in e-bikes and electric scooters traveling at high speeds, ignoring stop signs and creating hazards for pedestrians on sidewalks. Sweeney recounted near-miss incidents on St. Phillips Hill and other neighborhood streets. Council members said police are beginning with education and warnings and that officers have started confiscating devices from repeat offenders and involving parents. Council asked residents to report specific repeat offenders to police so enforcement can be targeted in problem areas.
