Sagadahoc County commissioners approve bank move, several hires and updated IT job description

Sagadahoc County commissioners on Oct. 8 unanimously approved a set of routine finance and personnel measures, including a new county bank account, a $538,000 funds transfer and three hires for the communications and sheriff’s departments.
The board authorized Finance Director Jill Flaherty to open an account with Northeast Bank and added Flaherty and Administrator Amber Jones as signatories. Commissioners also approved moving $538,000 from Down East Savings to Northeast Bank; both motions were made by Commissioner August, seconded by Commissioner Grose and passed 3‑0.
Communication Director Mike Carter described the hire of Renee Moody as a seasoned dispatcher who previously worked in Knox County and noted that Moody’s addition will make the Communications Center fully staffed. The board approved Moody’s hire effective Oct. 15, 2024.
The commissioners also approved hiring two patrol deputies. Sheriff Joel Merry described recruit Alex Faith as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran; the board authorized a hire date before the end of October to allow Faith to begin field training and attend the full‑time academy starting Jan. 21, 2025. The board approved the anticipated December hire of Stephanie Makoujy, who completed a strong interview and has been participating in ride‑alongs.
Administrator Amber Jones said outgoing IT Director Mike Dean and contractor John Buckhoff reviewed the updated Information Technology Director job description; the board approved the revised job description by unanimous vote.
All votes on these items were unanimous (3‑0). The board also welcomed newly introduced dispatcher Charles Wilson, who began dispatching July 11, 2024.
What’s next: The commissioners scheduled a Budget Goals Workshop for Oct. 22 (subject to rescheduling), and the Jail Authority will meet Oct. 16 to continue discussions on jail capital needs.
