Select Board reviews timber revenue, trail‑work contracts and decides to hold off spending Nordic grant match

The Carrabassett Valley Select Board received several informational updates on Sept. 23, including a forestry revenue report, trail work progress and grant timing.
Town Manager Garrett Corbin said this year’s timber harvest has generated $46,577.58 from 1,692 tons of wood to date, with roughly $30,000 still to be collected; he said the subcontractor has requested reimbursement for additional road‑improvement work and the Select Board will be asked at its Oct. 7 meeting to approve $1,688.49 for that purpose. Corbin noted wetter conditions required extra fill to protect equipment.
On the Homologated Nordic Course grant, Tom Butler reported the grant will not be forthcoming this year. The Select Board recalled that voters at the March Town Meeting authorized spending up to $80,000 as the town match; after discussion the board reached consensus to delay spending any match funds until the grant is secured, because funds spent early may not be credited to the project and the state and federal approvals arrive on different schedules.
Jordan Excavation has signed the contract to continue Narrow Gauge Trail work and has performed prep and repair work, including drilling and blasting aligned with engineering specifications. Other items noted: ongoing Franklin County strategic‑planning meetings; attendance at an AVCOG regional planning meeting in Eustis on Sept. 16; a disclosure that Corbin and Chair Luce were invited to Boyne in Michigan to meet a proposed golf‑course designer and found no conflict of interest; and a request from Select Board member Karen Campbell for better centralized event communication in the valley.
