Presenters from Sugarloaf and members of the Greens Committee updated the Select Board on a proposal for a nine‑hole walking “short course” on 28 acres Sugarloaf would donate to the town if voters approve it at Town Meeting, potentially in March 2025.

John Beaupre and Dave Cota (Greens Committee) and Sugarloaf representatives including Jeff Rosenberg described the project as part of the broader Sugarloaf-backed West Mountain development that is generating new taxable value for the town. The proposal anticipates the town accepting the 28‑acre donation and bonding construction costs; project materials presented to the board estimated a $4.25 million bond with a 30‑year amortization costing roughly $268,000 per year. Board member Lloyd Cuttler requested to see the figures in a spreadsheet for review.

Presenters said the project timetable depends on Department of Environmental Protection permits, which could be issued "any day," after which the proponents plan to appear before the Carrabassett Valley Planning Board and seek inclusion on the Town Meeting warrant. The group hopes to start clearing trees in January for a pond and most of the course, pending permits. The presenters also noted residents would receive discounted green fees and membership rates to be determined later. The proponents are planning a public presentation for Homecoming weekend to show hole renderings and seek public input.
