Sustainability Coordinator Minette Saulog presented an informational review of the Climate Plan Water Focus Area to the Parks and Environmental Commission on March 2, outlining three core initiatives: continuing to reduce drinking water consumption in homes and businesses, reducing excess impervious surfaces to improve infiltration and water quality, and establishing a revegetation program to replace lost tree cover.
Saulog explained program components and noted that rain sensors for irrigation systems are required by State Law. She characterized the presentation as informational and requested no Commission action at this time. Commissioner Kristen Peterson asked for additional detail on pervious/impervious area calculations, potential funds for treating diseased trees to avoid removal, and whether there are options for City-led tree plantings; staff noted they had not yet circulated a memo on tree‑treatment funding and Peterson said she would forward a memo to staff.
Saulog also announced that a private property infiltration sewer line grant will open on April 1 and reported that the solar system at the water treatment plant has been operational since October 2025; staff are continuing work to bring a public works solar project fully online. The presentation is intended to provide Commissioners with a status update on the Water Focus Area; no formal action was taken.
