Rome committee plans outreach: shoreline best-practices article, handbook, gravel-road workshops and document sharing

The Rome Water Quality Committee outlined several outreach and resource steps ahead of Town Meeting, including publishing shoreline guidance, compiling a handbook and coordinating document sharing with regional partners.
Cynthia Esthimer said she is writing a Shoreline Best Practices piece for the March Rome Reader and asked that pertinent links be added to the Town website; she also plans to gather educational handouts and staff a Town Meeting table. Lynn Matson proposed creating an all-inclusive handbook in a 3-ring binder organized by categories such as regulations, laws and best practices; he said much of the source material is available from 7LA and the Belgrade Lakes Association and need not be rewritten.
Larry Stafford said he will meet with the Wildewood Estates road commissioner and other association contacts to encourage attendance at periodic gravel-road workshops and to share information on erosion and runoff management. He said the Belgrade Lakes Colony Association provides a ‘gold standard’ model for road management and that he is researching 319 grants to support road-work outreach.
Matt Farragher said he will help gather educational materials from 7LA and BLA and is setting up a Google Shared site so the WQC and 7LA can share documents. The committee intends to compile gathered materials at the next meeting for sorting into handbook categories and for Town Meeting distribution.
