Rome selectmen approve minutes, accept $1,000 donation and call for Spirit of America nominations

The Town of Rome Board of Selectmen met Jan. 12, 2026. The board approved minutes from the Dec. 29, 2025 meeting, accepted a $1,000 donation to Rome Rescue and issued a call for nominations for the Spirit of America Award.
A motion by 2nd Selectman Larry DiPietro to approve the Dec. 29 minutes was seconded by 3rd Selectman Philip Burnworth and passed 3-0. Later in the meeting a $1,000 donation to Rome Rescue from Colleen Serrada (given in memory of her husband) was accepted on a motion by DiPietro, seconded by Burnworth, and approved 3-0.
Department and committee reports included Road Commissioner Kevin Hawes noting sand-and-salt needs for winter maintenance and advising that residents should bring complaints about winter road maintenance to the town office rather than to the Road Commissioner. Town Clerk Julie Morrison said she is finalizing a driveway permit form for the Road Commissioner's use. Tax Collector/Treasurer Tammy Lyons said money raised at a recent bean supper for the ball field will be combined with Recreation Committee funds but will be earmarked for the ball field.
Barbara Russell urged creation of a shared working document for the CPIC so committee chairs can share updates, and the board directed that a call for nominations for the Spirit of America Award be placed in the next town newsletter. Staff said reminders about a School Board meeting on Jan. 21 will be posted to Facebook and the town website. The board adjourned at 8:58 p.m.; the next regular meeting is Jan. 26, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
