Dams committee presents biannual budget request, plans spring tours; East Pond resident reports minor overtopping

Craig Alexander, chair of the Belgrade Area Dams Committee, told the committee he attended a Belgrade selectmen and budget meeting to answer questions about the committee's budget request. Alexander said the committee submitted a first six-month request for $9,894.50 and a second six-month request for $24,294.50, which includes funds for the Capital Reserve.
Committee member Mike Belanger said there have been requests to tour all three dams and that plans are to start tours in May. Committee member Dick Greenan noted that North Pond DEP water-level information is available on the DEP website.
Guest Edie Cornwall reported that two to three inches of water was flowing over the East Pond dam while the downstream stream remained very low; she said the DEP had issued no new recommendations regarding that site.
At the close of the meeting, Dick Greenan moved to adjourn; Blaine Horrocks seconded. The motion passed 'all in favor' and the meeting adjourned at 4:18 p.m.
