The Rockport Select Board voted Oct. 14 to adopt a resolution recognizing the Mid Coast Regional Housing Trust as an "essential partner" for housing projects the nonprofit pursues in Knox County municipalities.
John Goss, president of the trust's board, explained that the designation helps the organization document municipal support when applying for federal tax-exempt or funding treatment tied to low- and middle-income housing projects. "When we work with a municipality to create housing, we request a resolution naming us an essential partner to provide the paper trail for our nonprofit status and project eligibility," Goss said.
Board members discussed that the resolution is non-exclusive (other nonprofits, such as Habitat affiliates, could receive similar recognition) and that it does not itself change land use or funding commitments; rather, it signals municipal support when the trust seeks grants or regulatory approvals. The motion passed unanimously.
