Board told of $1.9 million carryover and Waldo County Technical Center enrollment and facility plans

The board also spent considerable time on the Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC). Board discussion covered a new Aqua Culture course currently housed in a mobile "box" at Belfast High School that will be moved to the WCTC site when utilities are installed, rising WCTC enrollment even as district-wide enrollment declines, an upcoming RFP for a new server room, and exploratory grant work that could create college- or graduate-credit pathways connected to WCTC programming. Board members discussed a planned site visit to the WCTC and were asked to confirm attendance so the board would have quorum for the Thursday visit.
Board members praised Waldo Tech’s role in student career and technical education and discussed potential next steps for strategic planning and facility improvements. No budget vote or formal funding decision was taken at this meeting; the finance committee committed to circulate the requested carryover detail.
