The Orangeville City Council approved several budget-related resolutions on June 11, including a transfer from the utility fund to the general fund to balance the 2025–26 budget, amendments across multiple funds, adoption of the 2026–27 budgets, and a certified tax rate for the 2025–26 tax year.
Kevin (speaker 6) moved to approve resolution 2026-5a authorizing a transfer from the utility fund to the general fund to address a deficit; Kurt (speaker 1) seconded and the motion passed on a recorded roll call. The council also approved resolution 2026-6, amending the 2025–26 general fund, municipal building authority, capital projects fund, utility fund, perpetual care and class C fund budgets after a motion by Carrie (speaker 3) and a second by David (speaker 8).
Council then approved resolution(s) adopting the 2026–27 budgets for the general fund, utility fund, municipal building authority and capital projects; the body also set the certified tax rate at 0.000866 for the 2025–26 year. All motions on these items were adopted unanimously.
None of the budget votes included amendments adopted on the floor at the June 11 meeting. Council members said they had discussed these resolutions in prior hearings; the votes at this session were approvals to enact the planned transfers and adoption measures.
The council did not identify additional revenue sources at the meeting beyond the approved transfers and amendments; staff earlier noted a budget deficit that the transfers are intended to address.
