Edgecomb County Public Schools technology staff told the board on Oct. 14 that network, phone and Wi‑Fi systems were brought online in East Rocky Mount schools in July and that a districtwide door‑access and camera project now covers 15 sites and more than 108 doors with badge access for staff.
Technology presenters said the district completed installation of over 100 interactive panels and telehealth stations in middle and high schools through a telecommunications/telehealth grant awarded previously (presenter described the grant as "over a million dollars"). Staff said telehealth stations will allow mental‑health providers and nurses to connect remotely with students and that the district has begun using a districtwide communications tool to publish website and social updates and to push notifications to parents.
The board heard additional details on classroom tools: GoGuardian is being deployed for classroom online‑safety monitoring (state‑provided), and learning.com is the K–8 digital literacy platform, with an objective that students complete the course by Jan. 1. Staff also outlined Spark lab expansion, robotics and STEM competition participation across schools.
Board members thanked the technology team for rapid deployments and asked that district staff continue to support training and parent outreach as systems scale districtwide.
