The audit review included questions about family-relations disclosures and payroll practices. The minutes record a discussion about the town’s practice of paying office staff for lunch; the board noted that statute requires a half-hour unpaid lunch unless otherwise written. Selectman Patneaude moved to leave the lunch-pay practice in place while staff consults the Maine Municipal Association (MMA) and while the town’s Pay Policy is completed; the motion passed 2-0.
Selectmen also discussed property-valuation questions about wind towers. The assessor told the board that wind towers are treated as personal property and would not be assessed at a percentage for the town unless there is a written agreement; the board requested the assessor put that guidance in writing.
