The Magnet Cove School District #8 Board of Education completed several routine actions Jan. 23, voting unanimously on minutes, financial statements, service agreements, vendor payment authorization and personnel matters.
Procedural votes: the board approved minutes from a Nov. 21 special meeting and the Nov. 18 regular meeting on a motion by Mike Hughes, seconded by David Sulton (vote 5-0). A board members' training hours report was presented during the meeting.
Financial and vendor actions: The board approved the district financial statements on a motion by Karen Scott, seconded by David Sulton (5-0). The board also approved a continuing service agreement with the Arkansas School Boards Association for its Model Policy Service at a cost of $950.00 (motion by Mike Hughes, second by Karen Scott, 5-0). The board authorized electronic fund transfers for vendors Ashley Brown and JE Systems on a motion by Samantha Nuckolls, seconded by Mike Hughes (5-0).
Personnel: The board accepted the resignation of school nurse Shawn GoodKnight effective at the end of the 2024–25 school year; the motion was made by David Sulton, seconded by Mike Hughes and passed 5-0.
Executive session and adjournment: The board met in executive session to discuss litigation from 6:30 p.m. to 7:09 p.m.; the public minutes do not disclose details. The board approved moving its next regular meeting from Monday, Feb. 17, 2025 (President's Day) to Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
All votes recorded in the public minutes were 5-0 in favor, with members Jeff McJunkins (presiding), Mike Hughes, David Sulton, Karen Scott and Samantha Nuckolls present.
