The Mendota City Council introduced and waived first reading of Ordinance No. 25-01 on May 6, adding Chapter 17.42 — the Housing Element Implementation Overlay District — to Title 17 of the Mendota Municipal Code. Mayor Victor Martinez introduced the ordinance and City Engineer Osborn presented the staff report; no members of the public spoke during the brief public comment period and the motion to introduce and waive first reading passed unanimously (4 ayes, absent: Jose Alonso).
City Engineer Osborn also briefed the council on the Derrick and Oller Roundabout project, status of city street repairs and potential Safe Routes to School projects. The council discussed potential safe routes projects during the update. Chief of Police Smith provided the March monthly report: property crimes and vehicle thefts have decreased, domestic violence incidents increased, a personnel update was given, and the department is purchasing a new Dodge Durango. City Manager Cristian Gonzalez reported on park issues and upcoming community events.
By introducing Ordinance No. 25-01 the council moved the housing-element implementation overlay district into the ordinance process; further hearings or readings may follow as required by state law and local procedures.
