Residential meters are expected to arrive by Thursday and staff plan to begin installations by testing smaller sections and software workflows; two-person crews can install about 20 meters per day and two crews could reach about 40 per day.
Aitken said the town is preparing for a routine Environmental Protection Agency sanitary survey (occurs every three years), which typically follows an initial call and a survey visit within about a week. He also said the town received state paperwork regarding increasing well capacity, submitted responses, and now Town Engineer Ryan Welling is completing technical engineering requirements to seek a permit to increase capacity to 640 acre-feet per year (reported as roughly 1,000 gallons per minute).
The town is pursuing a matching grant of up to $125,000 to automate 21 pressure relief valves (PRVs) and integrate them with the SCADA system; Aitken said the town will hold a previously budgeted $75,000 for PRV work until the grant decision is known. Town Treasurer Loretta Mason and Councilman Bitter provided financial context on water fund variances and grant impacts discussed during the financial report.
Next steps: staff will begin meter installations, continue SCADA and automation work, prepare for the EPA sanitary survey, and finalize the technical submittal needed for the state well permit; the PRV automation grant application is due in June.
