The board approved a five-year joint-use agreement with the Town of Tarboro effective Nov. 12, 2024 through Nov. 11, 2029; attorneys had reviewed the agreement and recommended approval. The board also approved submitting the district's 2024–25 Every Student Succeeds Act consolidated application to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, covering Title I (A and C), Title II, Title III, Title IV and Title IV-R funds and the district's proposed allocations.
By motion the board waived the community use facilities rental fee under the district policy for the Phillips High School 75th anniversary alumni event scheduled Dec. 14, 2024, noting the custodian cost will still be covered by the event. The board approved consent items that included field trips and donations; donors from the GW Carver alumni association and a community family center presented gifts and said the alumni group distributed $41,000 in scholarships to seniors this year.
The meeting included a motion to enter closed session under cited statutory provisions; following closed session the board approved personnel management matters discussed there. The board also approved extracurricular winter sports activities and both the open- and closed-session minutes for Oct. 14, 2024.
