Committee presses finance staff for interactive school‑level and program reporting; staff promises incremental tools

During the June 12 finance committee meeting several members urged staff to create more accessible budget views that let board members compare schools and programs quickly.
Committee members described practical examples—utilities, supplies or unusually high spending at an individual school—and asked for a report that shows spending by program and by location rather than raw ledger rows. One member said an automated, relational export with pivot controls would allow a member to “push a button” and get the comparisons they need.
IT/finance staff acknowledged the need and said the district’s system can export full fund data to Excel but that each interactive report currently requires a custom script; staff proposed starting small and delivering incremental, standardized one‑page summaries by program or school.
If implemented, the reports would aim to highlight variances and successful practices so the board can share effective approaches across schools without appearing accusatory, a point the chair emphasized.
The request is procedural and staff indicated it will pursue feasible steps rather than deliver an immediate, district‑wide interactive portal.
