RSU 25 board updates community‑use fees, adopts equipment‑lending procedures for first reading

The board performed a first reading of updates to the community‑use policy and a new equipment‑use administrative procedure that would allow the district to loan items such as chairs, speakers and cables to community organizations under signed agreements and clearly assigned responsibility for return and liability.
Policy staff said the big change to the community‑use policy is an updated technology support rate (now listed at $47 per hour) and an annual review mechanism so rates can be adjusted without a full two‑reading policy cycle each time. “We updated that when it’s gone up to $47 an hour,” the policy presenter said.
The new equipment procedure is intended to track inventory and reduce liability: building principals or designated staff would sign off on requests, borrowers would accept responsibility for return or replacement, and the district would reserve the right to require proof of insurance for higher‑risk facility uses.
Separately, the board held second readings of Title IX policies adapted from the Massachusetts School Management Association (MSMA) boilerplate to reflect recent law changes and moved to accept the second reading by voice vote.
Board members said the updated approach seeks to make community engagement easier while protecting district assets and limiting liability; the first reading items will return for final action per the board’s policy calendar.
