RSU 24 board approves teacher nominations as superintendent warns of persistent staffing gaps

The RSU 24 superintendent told the board on July 11 that while several vacancies have been filled, the district continues to face recruitment challenges for some positions and presented a slate of teacher nominations that the board approved.
The superintendent said the district is pleased with recent hires but noted a continuing struggle to fill a shared school counselor for Peninsula and Louis schools; the district will keep recruiting through Aug. 1 before considering alternative strategies. The summer middle-school math teacher position currently has zero applicants, and the health-position and some life-skills slots remain open.
At the meeting the superintendent recommended three immediate hires: Althia Christensen for fourth grade at Kville School; Christine Carver for kindergarten at Kville Hill School; and Linda Murray for intermediate grades at Peninsula School. The board moved, seconded and approved those nominations by voice vote. The transcript notes that Rachel Straw has agreed to a position pending completion of certification paperwork.
Board members complimented HR work filling multiple positions since earlier in the year and noted the district will continue active recruitment, including outreach to teachers in other districts when appropriate. Human Resources was assigned follow-up tasks to finalize hiring paperwork and monitor certification statuses.
