DeWitt Council receives DARA budget, approves server purchase and cemetery services agreement; routine approvals carried unanimously

The City of DeWitt City Council handled a series of routine and administrative items Aug. 25, voting unanimously on agenda and minutes approvals and several staff recommendations.
The council received and placed on file the DeWitt Area Recreation Authority (DARA) FY2026 budget following a presentation by Executive Director Chad Stevens, who said the program is thriving and praised staff. Council then approved the purchase of new City Hall servers from Thatch Computer Consulting for $15,296.35; the purchase was budgeted in the FY2025‑26 budget.
Council also approved an interlocal agreement with DeWitt Charter Township for the City of DeWitt to provide cemetery excavation services, and authorized the Mayor and City Clerk to sign the agreement on behalf of the city. The closed session provision for contract negotiations under the Open Meetings Act (Article 15.268 §8(c)) was used to discuss contract matters; the meeting reconvened and the council subsequently ratified other items on the agenda.
In staff reports, City Attorney Brian Goodenough commented on local events and cautioned about event‑related scams; Chief Bryan Curtis reported that the Ox Roast and the US27 Cruise‑In went smoothly with only minor incidents. Public comment included an Ox Roast recap from April Kirchen and an update on the Clinton Transit 2024 Annual Report by Dan Skorich.
