DeWitt police finalize Ox Roast plans, announce new lieutenant and firearms instructor certification

At the Aug. 11, 2025 DeWitt City Council meeting, Police Chief Bryan Curtis reported the department is finalizing plans for the Ox Roast and the US 27 Motor Tour and is working toward ratifying the police contract.
Chief Curtis said Officer Murdock completed the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) firearms instructor classes and that the department’s new lieutenant, Jeromy Churchill, started on Thursday and brings 25 years of experience.
Councilmember Donohue thanked Councilmember Landgraf for her work on Ox Roast planning; Landgraf said the event planning is nearly complete and noted that Eaton Area Ambulance will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday, Aug. 17. The police chief indicated the department is coordinating public-safety planning for those events.
These remarks were given as part of the routine department reports portion of the agenda. No formal police-department actions or votes were recorded on staffing or contract ratification during the meeting; Council members did not vote on personnel appointments during this session.
