County approves Brightly contract for building assessments and asset-management software

The Public Facilities Committee voted June 16 to award a contract to Brightly (formerly referenced in discussion as a package compared to other vendors) for a comprehensive condition assessment and facilities-management software intended to move county operations from reactive to proactive maintenance.
Chair (S2) moved the item and staff (S7) said the contract will produce building-condition grades, tag assets with barcodes, and include an integrated work-order system and energy audits. Director (S4) said the assessment and software together would produce a dashboard showing asset ages and replacement schedules: “We can see a 5, 10, 15, 20 year replacement,” S4 said, describing how the tool will help prioritize capital spending.
Committee members asked about costs and timelines. Chair (S2) read an estimated ongoing annual cost figure from the packet: “$57,000 annually after the installation,” and Director (S4) offered a projected annual savings figure: “I’d say easily $200,000 a year.” Staff also noted the condition assessment will take about 12 months to complete, so some budget placeholders remain necessary for next year’s planning.
The committee approved the Brightly contract with no objection. Staff said the software can connect to existing public reporting apps and to internal work-order systems as the county expands integration.
The approval directs staff to proceed with the assessment and software implementation and to return updates and reports that will inform future capital planning.
