Chebeague Island School to distribute CDC COVID charts; selected for NAEP test in March 2022

The Chebeague Island School Committee on Sept. 21 received CDC COVID protocol charts for families and agreed each student will receive a copy; the committee also plans to post the charts on the school website to guide questions about close contact, quarantine and isolation.
The school reported a $500 contribution from the Recompense Fund earmarked for COVID safety. Jeff Putnam relayed that Mike Pulsifer had called to send best regards to staff; the committee acknowledged receipt of an email from Erika Neumann proposing a COVID safety plan but decided to continue with the school's existing protocols.
Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick reported on several routine school items: Summer Reading Challenge prizes distributed to top finishers, after-school programs through the December break (arts and crafts, recreation center sessions, movement classes and Forest Fridays), and a larger-than-expected playground boat structure that arrived and will be adjusted by the builder. The school will participate in a community flu clinic next week. Kirkpatrick also noted that Chebeague Island School was selected to participate in the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) for fourth graders on March 4, 2022.
The committee took no formal votes on policy changes to COVID protocols; the CDC charts are informational materials to help families make quarantine decisions under the current local plan.
