Committee adopts remote-participation policy; discusses enrollment, transportation and lunch program

The Chebeague Island School Committee voted unanimously on Sept. 7 to adopt Policy BED, permitting remote participation in School Committee meetings.
Chair Leah Guay moved to accept Policy BED on its second reading; Suzanne Rugh seconded the motion, which passed 4-0-0. The committee recorded the adoption as part of its regular business.
During new-business reports, Superintendent Ann Kirkpatrick said enrollment as of Sept. 7 stood at 15 students for Chebeague Island School, 10 in the middle school and 16 in the high school, plus two out-of-district placements. An Open House was scheduled for Oct. 18, 2021; masks will be required indoors for attendees.
Committee members also discussed a potential purchase of a second vehicle to provide mainland transportation for students. Kirkpatrick said she would consult further with parents and with CTC before making any purchase decisions.
In reports, Kirkpatrick updated the committee on the Little Casco Tank project: pavers donated by Tracy Ames will be placed by the kitchen door and the generator is scheduled for service that week. She also noted that the school lunch program is serving more students, that staff will seek grants to offset food costs and that meal costs are being tracked per student. Polly Wentworth was identified as helping to process peaches picked by students for winter smoothies.
